EVVA has received an award as an energy efficient company from klima:aktiv, the Austrian Ministry for the Environment's climate protection initiative.
Lighting optimisation awarded prize
Entries were permitted from industrial and business enterprises from all over Austria which had implemented measures to increase energy efficiency between January 2009 and September 2011. An expert panel selected the 31 most ambitious companies and projects from among all entrants. Winning companies were presented with a klima:aktiv certificate during the award ceremony. For EVVA, sustainability is not a question of improving its corporate image, rather it involves providing continuous improvements for the company and its employees. That's why EVVA has also received the Öko Business Plan Award yet again in 2012. EVVA has received this EcoProfit Award for its first-rate environmental management ever since 1999.
Staring point
In 2009, EVVA made a clear investment to ensure that all lighting fittings were upgraded to a uniform, modern standard. Energy consumption for lighting has thus been reduced by 40% according to calculations by 0800 SUPPORT GmbH – without any loss in light power!
Implementation
Specially electronically powered 'Slimline lights within lights' have been installed for the upgrade. This TÜV-certified system requires no installation work and the bulbs were replaced without disrupting day-to-day operations at EVVA. The existing light fittings served as fixtures and power outlets for the new system.
Result
The main benefit is the overall improvement in lighting quality for employees. The upgrade was a particular success in the tool making department, where the use of two different light colours provides good visibility for machine workstations and eradicates reflection on white paper. Favourable to the environment, the investment also reduces energy costs by € 12,000 per year, equivalent to a 2.6% reduction in overall power consumption.
